Job Description

The U.S. Tax Director will have primary responsibility for all U.S. Federal, state and local tax matters at Wellington.  S/he will work closely with the Tax Director, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, and will be a direct report to the Global Tax Director.  This job is based in Boston.  The U.S. Tax Director will have responsibility for all U.S.-related tax planning undertaken by Wellington's management company and pooled investment vehicles.  In addition, the U.S. Tax Director will serve as a technical resource for Wellington's tax department on diverse U.S. tax issues, with the main focus being on partnership taxation, U.S. international tax and the taxation of financial instruments and products.  This will involve assisting in the review of tax compliance materials.  The U.S. Tax Director will also assist with the management of significant vendor relationships and will assume administrative responsibility for tax department staff that focus on U.S. tax issues.

Job Responsibilities

An ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Have experience leading and motivating a mid-sized team of tax professionals (Wellington's U.S. tax group has 12 full-time professionals),
  • Be an experienced, well-rounded technician who enjoys being directly involved in detailed work, including review of tax compliance materials,
  • Possess a good sense of judgment, and enjoy working closely with non-tax colleagues to identify planning opportunities and ensure compliance with regulatory and client-driven tax requirements of our business
