Vice President II, Life Sciences

The Life Science Credit Solutionsgroup manages lending/credit for a wide range of life science creditrelationships.  Partners with the LifeScience Relationship Management Team in the due diligence process, dealstructuring process and for the delivery and negotiation of credit solutions.  Owns the underwriting, approval and closingprocess.  Responsible for proactiveportfolio management, including maintaining credit quality and profitabilitytargets.  Remains abreast of market,subsector and competitive trends.  Engagesand builds relationships with key client stakeholders to remain well-informed,and able to respond to changing circumstances while appropriately balancingclient and SVB needs.  Develops anddelivers insights and points of view on loan types and credit/performancetrends in sectors/sub-sectors.

Job Skill Level:
  • Manageslending/credit aspects for assigned client relationships and prospects. 

  • Partnerswith the Relationship Management team in leading the due diligence and dealstructuring process and to deliver and negotiate the credit solution. 

  • Ownsthe underwriting, documentation and closing process.

  • Responsiblefor proactive portfolio management, understanding changing risk profiles oftheir clients and communicating this information and assessment to keystakeholders (internal and external). 

  • Recommendsand executes on appropriate steps based on changing circumstances across arange of complex issues.

  • Engageswith clients independently, building relationships with the appropriate stakeholders,gathering information and responding to ongoing needs.

  • Providestraining to less experienced staff and supports MD/Director in team leadership,including ensuring that resource allocation to their portfolio and to thepipeline is appropriate. 

  • Developsinsights into loan types and sectors and demonstrates thought leadership.

Job Complexity:
  • Leads due diligence,structuring, underwriting and documentation processes independently for complexdeals. 

  • Able to manage largeand complex portfolio with limited oversight. 

  • Highly skilled atdeveloping term sheets and deal structures independently and provides expertguidance in the negotiation process with the client. 

  • Coaches and mentorsless experienced staff members enabling them to show improved efficiency andeffectiveness. 

  • Independently leaddeal modifications as appropriate.

  • Providesinsights/thought leadership on deal types as well as guidance on dealstructuring, underwriting and documentation negotiations. 

  • Able to effectivelymanage resources to optimize process and outcomes.

Primary Duties:
  • Lead the structuring,underwriting and closing of credit solutions for their assigned prospects / portfolio/ sector. 

  • Responsible for theprocess end to end including collaborating with Relationship Management, andengaging with clients/prospects, Credit Admin, Legal partners and otherinternal / external stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes. 

  • Manages resourceseffectively and responsible for doing this at scale/volume.

  •  Manage assigned portfolio of borrowingrelationships, maintaining data integrity on bank systems, reviewinginformation, evaluating risk, and engaging with clients, building relationshipswith appropriate stakeholders.  

  • Communicateinternally to recommend and execute on responses to changing situations forclients / across the portfolio broadly. Ensures that portfolio managementpractices meet SVB standards.   

  • Support theMD/Director as a leader in team development, including collaboration andcoaching of Associates who support the team. (could include acting asmanager) 

  • Driving subjectmatter expertise within the team including market, sector and competitivetrends, business models, lending models and making the group more scalablethrough optimizing how we conduct business and manage the portfolio. 

  • 6+ years of related experience. Advanced knowledge ofportfolio management practices including expertise in evaluating risk andmanaging changing situations. 

  • Strongstructuring and negotiation skills, closing skills and ability to engage andbuild trust with clients independently. 

  • Bachelorsdegree or equivalent related experience.
