Role Value Proposition:
The model steward is responsible for managing the model development lifecycle, and establishing governance over the modeling process to ensure accuracy in model results. Other responsibilities include new product implementation, change management, assumption implementation, production model control and model validation.

Department : Chief Actuary

Key Relationships :

  • Reports To: Head of Actuarial Modeling
  • Direct Reports/Team: 6 to 8 modeler developers
  • Other Key Stakeholders: Pricing, Experience Studies, Projections and Asset Liability Management (ALM) teams

Travel:
Up to 25%

Key Responsibilities:
  • Govern and manage the model development lifecycle
  • Develop and enforce best in class modeling standards
  • Maintain change management and version control
  • With the assistance of IT, manage and maintain the production environment and control user access
  • Participate in the assumption setting process to ensure assumptions are implemented as intended
  • Develop and maintain an issues log to track issues for remediation
  • Implement and test new software releases, library updates, new products, new regulatory requirements, and shared table changes
  • Communicate to model users of new releases, library updates, and shared table changes
  • Provide modeling guidance and best practices to modeling team
  • Monitor and guide training for model developers at all levels
  • Manage merger of model revisions into the corporate model
  • Sit on change review board and provide technical modeling support to prioritization and staffing of model change initiatives
  • Coordinate staging of model inputs
  • Maintain relationships with software vendors

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation
  • 15+ years modeling expertise across a variety of packages (MoSes, Prophet, GGY, etc.)
  • 10+ years of Actuarial Model development
  • Life & Annuity Actuarial model design (5+ years)
  • Significant product knowledge to understand modeling requirements for Life and Annuity products
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Conceptual and analytical skills to develop solutions to complex problems
  • Sound business judgment skills (decision-making and problem solving)
