Compliance Operations Officer - Regulatory Initiatives Coordinator

The Compliance Operations Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Firm's Client Identification Program covering its Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Asset Management businesses, as well as responsible for performing research around Credit Suisse's high-risk clients (existing and new), Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and provide related administrative and case management support.

In addition, the candidate will also coordinate with both AML Compliance and Compliance Operations peers under both the U.S. and global coverage model regarding program initiatives as well as any new policy or regulations released to enhance and educate our internal clients.

Overview of department:

The U.S. Compliance Operations Group handles client on-boarding reviews, conducts enhanced due diligence assessments, PEPs reviews as well as maintaining and conducting ongoing monitoring of High Risk client relationships for the Americas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support U.S. and Global Head of Compliance Operations in the analysis and roll of new regulatory initiatives and corresponding remediation's
  • Work closely with Compliance Operations managers on program enhancements, strategic platform initiatives and projects which harmonize processes with peer global groups.
  • Work with Compliance Operations units in other jurisdictions in order to ensure awareness of local regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with and provide support to the firm's international and domestic AML Compliance teams.
  • Efficiently handle multiple functions under timelines with a high degree of accuracy
  • Identify and undertake projects to improve the process and application of Credit Suisse Client ID procedures, as and when required, utilizing technology where possible.
  • Have familiarity with both Bank Secrecy Act ("BSA") and USA PATRIOT Act requirements for an Anti-Money Laundering program.
  • Verify the identity of prospective new clients across Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Asset Management divisions of Credit Suisse. Verification should be in accordance with local regulatory and Credit Suisse policies and procedures.
  • As part of the Enhanced Due Diligence process, conduct database searches and evaluating results to ensure that new customers are not subject to OFAC or other global sanctions lists and that the customer and related parties do not present any reputational risk to the Firm.
  • Interact with the First Line of Defense ("1LOD") to ensure accurate account documentation is acquired from the customer prior to account trading.
  • Advise 1LOD of deficiencies in paperwork submitted and educating front office staff on the Firm's Client ID obligations.
  • Provide training on Client ID / Know Your Customer (KYC) to AML Compliance and 1LOD and other departments as required.

  • Minimum four years of AML or investigative due diligence experience for a Financial institution with experience of due diligence of Private Banking Clients, Financial Institutions, Non-Bank Financial Institutions, Hedge Funds, Funds, Special Purpose Vehicles and major Corporate clients

  • Ability to manage multiple assigned responsibilities while meeting key goals associated with global program initiatives

  • Validated experience in a highly effective compliance function in a financial services or heavily regulated industry, with public sector experience desired but not critical

  • Sound knowledge of the wide range and variety, of fund/corporate structures

  • Outstanding research and analytical skills with capability to analyze large amounts of data, decipher higher risk attributes (transactional, geographical, product, customer type, etc.) and disposition appropriately

  • Advanced degree (Law Degree/Masters) a plus!

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English, with proven ability to communicate ideas in a concise form

  • Results oriented teammate with outstanding interpersonal and problem solving skills.

  • Hardworking, committed with ability to learn, work independently, time management and collaboration skills.

  • Extensive cultural transformation experience in leading change across an organization through influence and collaboration, validated leadership skills in a fast paced environment

  • Proficiency in the following systems/software: Microsoft Office, Lexis Nexis, World Check and various Compliance Related Systems.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of financial crime risks, high risk jurisdictions and PEPs;
  • A Bachelor's degree in qualitative field (e.g. International Relations; Law; Politics; Government; Criminal Justice; etc.)
  • Detailed understanding of online research and desk-based investigative techniques (e.g. Lexis, Factiva, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, etc.)
  • ACAMS Certified is a plus!
