State & Local Tax Compliance Manager


We are seeking a State & Local Tax Compliance Manager to join our growing team. The candidate will be responsible primarily for the management of state and local tax returns in collaboration with team members on overall compliance obligations. This individual must have experience with state and local tax matters relating to US partnership reporting (1065) and US corporate tax reporting (1120). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on challenges and is ready roll up their sleeves to assist in the building of a best-in-class tax department for a public company.

Key Responsibilities include :
• Review (at times prepare) and finalize state and local income tax returns with an emphasis on NYS/C state income tax returns, including:
    Preparation and management of the tax compliance calendars, quarterly estimates and annual extension processes Management of state apportionment and modifications process including compiling data required for the computations Management of partner composite election process Review of provision to return true-up calculation upon filing of the tax returns Liaise with the tax accounting team for tracking cash tax payments and refunds, analyzing net operating losses and tax credits based on return filings Work closely with third party service provider to identify opportunities to develop/implement process or automation improvements
• Assist with state tax audits as necessary
• Respond to inquiries and notices from state taxing authorities
• Perform, summarize and memorialize tax research and conclusions regarding specific issues
• Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax laws to ensure proper compliance
• Assist in monitoring of controls and modify the processes as needed and maximize use of technology/automation to increase productivity and reduce task risk
• Supervise staff (including interns) and provide timely feedback to aid in their professional development
• Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications :
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• Masters in Tax and/or CPA or JD a plus
• Minimum of 5+ years of Corporate/Partnership tax compliance experience with mix of public/private background (Big 4 a plus)
• Experience at a large bank or financial institution preferred
• High proficiency in MS Office suite (specifically Excel)
• Detail oriented self-starter with excellent tax technical capabilities and strong analytical, research and project management skills
• Willingness to take ownership and dedicate the time needed to complete departmental and company-wide objectives
• Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds
• Strong managerial skills, with a hands-on approach
• Working knowledge of Oracle software
