Corporate Banking Credit Officer

Job Description
Wholesale Credit coordinates and oversees risk and risk management activities in Wholesale Banking, serving as a critical element of the group's first-line of defense. Together with our LOB partners, we own and are accountable for understanding credit, model, and reputational risks associated with Wholesale Banking's activities and for ensuring that risk and reward are appropriately balanced in management decisions.

Wholesale Credit Risk leads the setting of credit, model, and reputational risk tolerance for Wholesale Banking in alignment with corporate statements of risk appetite and the monitoring of current and emerging risks against those limits. We ensure that practices established by Wholesale businesses are consistent with applicable frameworks, policies, and standards, and we escalate instances of excessive risk and misalignment to appropriate levels. We monitor and sometimes lead remediation actions designed to reduce risk or correct instances of misalignment.

In 4Q17, Wells Fargo is centralizing credit approval and governance functions within Corporate Credit & Market Risk. As a result, Wholesale Credit team members, senior credit officers and their team members will become part of a new team called Commercial Credit. Commercial Credit will have oversight for all Wholesale credit decisions and portfolios, as well as the commercial portion of the Dealer Services portfolio.

This position will be aligned to the Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) vertical in the Corporate Banking Group (CBG) within Wholesale Banking. CBG is a diverse set of primarily industry-focused businesses that provide integrated financial solutions to corporate, investment grade, non-investment grade, public, and private customers. TMT is dedicated to serving customers in information technology, business services, venture fund services, internet, hardware, software, traditional media, publishing, diversified media, wireless, and cable.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

• Will be a key member of the team providing oversight and management of credit risk for CBG's TMT group, working to support the objectives and goals of the TMT group while maintaining prudent credit underwriting standards and sound overall portfolio quality.

• Maintain appropriate credit quality and portfolio health by providing informed and thoughtful credit risk guidance, recommendations and approvals, engaging in regular portfolio evaluation and deteriorating/problem credit review, and by escalating matters when appropriate.

• Develop and maintain a solid understanding of bank credit policy, regulatory standards and guidance, and risk rating applicability; provide leadership and guidance on these matters to CBG teams and partners.

• Develop and maintain appropriate industry and sector knowledge.

• Engage product and subject matter experts and other institutional resources as needed to make informed decisions and recommendations.

• Review pipeline activity regularly with CBG teams and assist in the management of deadline awareness and coverage team and client expectations.

• Be willing to join in a reasonable level of direct client and prospect engagement.

• Provide thoughtful leadership and guidance to teams around necessary diligence and analytical focus, particularly in M&A situations and on complex deals.

• Exemplify Wells Fargo's strong credit culture and strengthen team member engagement.
