We are a global European bank with a growing NY office. We seek an experienced Credit Risk professional with 5-7 years of directly relevant experience, with sector knowledge of Commodities, Energy and/or Basic Materials.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Credit Risk Assessments
Based on the relevant credit proposal an independent credit risk assessment is made including Policy Adherence, Business Risks, Financial Risks (Profitability, Balance Sheet (assets and liabilities/net worth) and Cash Flow and projections, and Structure Risks (group structure and facility structure, security and documentation).

Credit Advices
Based on the outcome of the assessment an independent credit advice is prepared, including, if necessary, recommendations for change in structure, terms and conditions and  recommendations regarding the quality of (parts of) the business proposal, the counterparty rating (UCR), the proposed LGD and financial and/or non-financial covenants and other monitoring terms and conditions. This advice is made risk based rather than on a time based approach. Those advices (and assessments or decisions) will include challenges to the business on the structure and quality of proposals, and corrections in case of need, in order to optimise the efficiency of processes and foster a learning environment between the 1st and 2nd line.

Credit decisions
Based on the aforementioned advices, ensures high quality decisions made in delegation, such decisions to be well motivated and meet high quality standards offering transparency and clarity in the decision making process. Is the (alternate) Credit Risk representative within the relevant credit committees regarding advices, decisions and decision minutes.

Monitor and Oversight
Closely monitors its allocated credit portfolio and the credit risk management by the business thereof for which active participation in monthly Oversight/Watch – meetings may be required.


Set the Standard
Contributes in the development of the relevant ORM framework and participates as controller and/or tester, as determined in the ORM-framework, in the periodical MC&T cycles for the relevant assigned business line. Advises on risk management frameworks and on the assessment and measurement of risk.

Be a Sparring Partner
Is contact person for its designated Business colleagues regarding credit risk and related other risk types and/or issues of the business. Develops within the team a thorough insight into trends and issues in the international financial markets. Supports the business in respect of credit risk management processes, policies and procedures. If appropriate, offers support to the business in structuring new transactions and/or organises pre-wash meetings. Contributes in training of (new) colleagues.

Teamwork and cooperation       
Notwithstanding the principal assignment to a specific Credit Risk team, jobholder is at the same time responsible and accountable for the overall result of Credit Risk, which implies that cross-team support and will be given and done as and when necessary in order to achieve the overall objectives of Credit Risk.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

General
• University degree in economics, econometrics, business administration, law, civil engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years’ experience.

Specific
• Knowledge of international and specialized finance concepts and credit risk structuring, financial analysis, legal, business and fiscal aspects of lending and macro-economic and business finance.
• Knowledge of the concept and use of the various cash flow, rating, LGD and valuation models.
• Knowledge and understanding of the vision, mission and strategy of the bank’s credit risk policies and credit risk management procedures, products and services, including the specific credit approval delegation framework.
• Sound knowledge of the sector and industry in which the clients of the
