Details of This Role
We are looking for a Head of Technical Documentation to shape the way documentation is written and delivered to our global community of 10,000 engineers and over 30,000 end users. This is a senior-level role with the opportunity to define best practices, oversee their application across a range of platforms, and influence the development of authoring and search tools.


  • Develop editorial processes and workflows for authoring and delivering all types of technical documentation, including developer guides, administrative procedures, API references, and end user manuals. Oversee development of templates, samples and guidelines
  • Communicate details of processes and workflows to all stakeholders, including engineering managers, engineer-authors, and technical writers.
  • Hire and manage a team of technical communicators who focus on documenting the Firm's core platforms and architectures
  • Develop training programs to educate stakeholders on their documentation-related responsibilities and to improve the quality of technical documentation across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate authoring tools into the software development environment; ensure the Firm's library of technical documentation is well-organized and easily searched.
  • Establish documentation health metrics and dashboards to assess coverage and quality.
  • Serve as a thought leader in the documentation space and collaborate with teams from across the organization to ensure consistent approaches to technical communications
  • 10+ years of experience managing a large-scale technical documentation program; familiarity with developer-facing documentation is a must
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to work well with varied stakeholders
  • Strong project management and people management skills; experience building out and developing a team of technical writers
  • Understanding of software development practices and comfort with code
  • Ability to deliver against tight deadlines and handle multiple, competing demands
  • Positive team attitude and a willingness to get hands-on with everything from strategy to editing
