What is the Global Research Library group responsible for?

Global Research Library supports Equity, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset Solutions and other Franklin Templeton investment groups around the world by providing professional information, research and data visualization services. The Senior Research Librarian works as part of a global team, under direction of a Manager, with a focus on supporting the investment professionals in the New York office.

What is the Sr. Research Librarian responsible for?

The Sr. Research Librarian provides a wide range of research and information services to multiple investment management groups in New York and other locations. The Sr. Research Librarian is responsible for building and managing client relationships and client communication. She/he works closely with portfolio managers and other investment professionals to understand their specific needs, and delivers highly relevant research that is customized and personalized for each portfolio group and client. The Sr. Research Librarian conducts regular client needs assessment and suggests/develops service enhancements and new services.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Sr. Research Librarian?

  • Using a variety of online research databases and sources such as Factiva, LexisNexis, FactSet and Bloomberg, conducts qualitative and quantitative research and analysis on companies, people, industries, countries and various investment topics.
  • Research, analyze, filter, synthesize and customize information and data from multiple sources into actionable insight for individuals and teams.
  • Curate sector/industry, country and/or topic related content on the library's research portal. May be assigned multiple sectors, countries, investment topics.
  • Communicate effectively with research analysts and portfolio managers to ensure full understanding of research requirements, manage expectations, provide relevant results, and solicit feedback.
  • Promote library services and resources to clients.


Qualifications
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
  • MLS (Master's Degree in Library and Information Science) or equivalent.
  • Expert knowledge of LexisNexis and Factiva.
  • Experience utilizing Bloomberg and FactSet.
  • Expert knowledge of online searching techniques and tools necessary to retrieve, collate and synthesize financial and statistical data, broker research, company filings, and other types of information.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant business, financial, academic and trade publications, government and regulatory sources, research firms, and reliable Internet-based sources.
  • Experience with information technology, databases, filtering technology, taxonomy, indexing, search engines, file types, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Familiarity and understanding of asset management industry, markets, economy and investment concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of collaborative technologies, including SharePoint, MindManager, Outlook, etc.
