The Role: Scenario Planning Analyst/Senior Analyst - Gas and Power

The Location: New York, Denver, London, Singapore

The Team: This role is part of Scenario Planning Group, which is part of Platts Analytics. The team is small, yet interacts with all facets of Platts Analytics, creating and shaping the long-term outlook for all forms of energy. Most members of this team are part of the legacy PIRA Energy Group (www.pira.com), which recently became part of S&P Global.

The Impact: This position will have substantial responsibilities of research in elements affecting long-term energy markets (supply, demand, trade, and price), particularly global natural gas and electricity. The position also requires the preparation of written reports and client-facing interactions.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, improve, and develop inputs and outputs for long-term energy markets with a particular focus on upstream global natural gas, working closely with other analytical staff within Platts
  • Support Platts Analytics' wider organization, including Oil, Gas, Power and Emissions/Clean Energy
  • Interact with clients to answer questions and present outlooks

What We're Looking For:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Five (or more) years of experience in energy industry consulting, investment banking, equity research or equivalent professional experience
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be able to effectively present forecasts and supporting materials to clients in regular reports, phone calls, emails, and web/live conferences.
  • Innovative and strong problem-solving skills to streamline processes and identify and implement improvements
  • Ability to create and maintain complex databases
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to assess impact of policy issues influencing coal markets
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in economics, engineering, or a similar field, with experience in energy markets.
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel. At ease using features such as pivot tables, matrix formulas and other advanced Excel functionality.
  • Successful candidates will possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit, be highly self-directed and be able to work well under tight deadlines
  • Understanding of MS Access / SQL

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience covering long-term energy markets, upstream natural gas
