Technical Lead - Historical Market Data & Instrument Reference Data

BNY Mellon is looking for a Tech Lead for it's historical market data and instrument reference data platform. BNY Mellon has a strong position in US and Global Capital markets and is currently undergoing a major expansion of it's markets business. This role, and the team, are critical for the buildout of this organization and its risk management capabilities.

The Position

The Tech Lead will manage a team of 10 people in NY and India with responsibility for development, delivery and support of historical market data time series and reference data used in risk management and regulatory reporting. The role is based in NY and reports into a SVP reporting directly into the Global Head of Risk Technology.

As this is a technical leadership role the successful individual will:

- Provide technical leadership in continued build, design and implementation of the platform

- Manage projects (including headcount and financial management) associated with the platform within a given budget and provide governance for the end-to-end delivery, including communication with senior business and technology stakeholders

- Maintain and develop relationships with data and software vendors

- Understand and take on business requirements and translate these into technical requirements for the platform and team


Required Personal Skills and Experience:

- People management, people development in a global organization

- Strong problem solving skills and ability to apply technology solutions to business needs

- Team-minded and collaborative with strong organizational and communication skills

- Strong understanding of how historical market data are managed and the complexity of time series maintenance

- Strong understanding of instrument reference data, in particular fixed income instruments

Required Technical Expertise:

- Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience

- 10 + years of experience in systems analysis and program development with related supervisory, management and administrative experience

- Strong expertise in Java web service implementation

- Strong database design skills (Microsoft SQL Server preferred but other RDMS possible) in a "big data" environment

- Experience in tuning of complex queries

- Overall architecture experience to make strategic decisions around warehousing and operational data storage design

- Strong SDLC knowledge and ability to manage a development team to a high standard of code quality

- Experience in the securities or financial services industries is a plus
