Vice President - Senior Research Analyst

Location: New York, NY, USA

Role / Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Vice President to join the Credit Strategy & Research Group in New York. The successful candidate will be part of the Research team with the following responsibilities:
  • Conduct original research on macroeconomic and financial themes relevant to credit analysis
  • Monitor academic and other external research on macro credit topics, building relationships with external parties, and testing analytical robustness
  • Proactively propose research ideas on global macroeconomic and financial stability issues, establish and implement approach, write and present research findings
  • Lead research projects across Credit Strategy & Standards and other rating groups in Moody's, identifying key issues and helping contributors deliver analysis on time
  • Work with other rating groups to explore and explain macroeconomic and financial stability issues
  • Represent the Credit Strategy & Research team effectively both internally (e.g., in credit discussions) and at external meetings and conferences
  • Supervise the research work of the more junior members of the team
  • Represent MIS at external events on macroeconomic and financial stability topics
  • Support Moody's Macroeconomic Board in monitoring and analysing regional trends, macroeconomic developments, and country-specific economic, fiscal, and political developments
  • Adhere to applicable codes of conduct, policies, procedures, and best practices.

Department / Team:

The role is within the Credit Strategy & Research team, which provides thought leadership, develops macro viewpoints in collaboration with rating teams and key market participants, and describes those views to the market through thematic research and engagement with key market participants. The team is part of the Credit Strategy and Standards group which promotes rating quality, consistency and transparency in Moody's Investors Service credit analysis globally.

  • Very strong academic background - graduate degree or equivalent, preferably in Economics or Finance.
  • Experience in applying very strong knowledge and understanding of credit and/or macroeconomic principles via quantitative analysis and publications.
  • Substantial experience in a credit or economics role at a recognized institution.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to present an argument clearly and concisely, and tailor communication to an audience.
  • Track-record of leading and delivering economic research and projects.
  • Proven ability to be proactive and exercise own initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively and contribute within a diverse team, managing own workflow and priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work on a diverse set of macro credit research topics.
  • Strong MS Office skills: principally Excel (including use of macros), Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong quantitative skills and financial/statistical research experience; knowledge of econometrics (e.g., Eviews) would be an advantage.
  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is required. Proficiency or fluency in additional languages is a plus.
