Job Title

Vice President, Strategy

Overview
Data & Services are a key differentiator for Mastercard, providing the cutting-edge services that help our customers grow. Focused on thinking big and scaling fast around the globe, this agile team is responsible for end-to-end solutions for a diverse global customer base. Centered on data-driven technologies and innovation, these services include payments-focused consulting, loyalty and marketing programs, business Test & Learn experimentation, and data-driven information and risk management services.

Strategy is the art of making decisions. Within the Data & Services organization, the Strategy Team is being created to provide guidance for major decisions about where D&S will focus over the coming years. The team will develop the overall strategy for D&S going forward, in conjunction with a wide variety of stakeholders in D&S and core Mastercard. The strategy will be driven by a fact-base about our current business economics, market dynamics, and competitive position.. The strategy will drive focus for new product development, M&A, partnerships, vertical focus and other resource trade-offs. The group will partner closely with many stakeholders including: the D&S leadership team, other teams in D&S (e.g., M&A, PME governance, product development, sales strategy, regional teams, etc.) and with the Mastercard Core strategy group to create an ongoing "Strategic Agenda" for D&S. The Strategy Team will also be responsible for sourcing and evaluating new product ideas in Stage 1 of the PME process. We expect many ideas will come from the broader organization, and it will be critical that we facilitate broad involvement and not act as an "ivory tower". The team will be organized into generalists, FI experts, and R&C experts. We will take a project-based consultative approach to working, with team members working on flexible engagements with varied team composition focused on specific objectives.

The VP, Strategy will lead a team focused on the overall strategy development, strategic deep dives, and early evaluation of new product ideas in Stage 1 of the PME process. It is expected that s/he will be working with many team members across and beyond Strategy on specific projects.
•Do you have a fact-based strategic mindset?
•Do you have deep knowledge of multiple Payments and FI-related sectors, including both industry dynamics/issues and Mastercard's offerings?
•Are you comfortable saying no, even when politically challenging, when that is what the fact-base supports?
•Have you worked on projects with many stakeholders across functional areas and regions?
•Do you enjoy working on consultative goal-driven teams, with variation in day-to-day responsibilities/priorities, the highest quality standards and a will-to-win mentality?
If so, you may be a good candidate from this role.

Role
A successful team member in this position:
•Leads the team and personally participates in conducting data-driven analysis on current and potential D&S businesses/offerings, including economic analysis, strategic "tailwind" and "headwind" identification, competitive analysis/benchmarking, and business case creation.
•Applies a deep existing knowledge base about how D&S customers' businesses work, especially overall business economics, market dynamics, and specific functional areas such as payments, marketing, business analytics and consumer insights.
•Owns our perspective of the role Data & Services should play in key topical issues relevant to Mastercard. Example issues may include AI, Digital Payments, Privacy and Security, Nationalism, Consumer Consent, 5G, New Payment Flows, etc.
•Partners with a diverse set of stakeholders across the organization to solicit ideas, conduct outstanding analysis and to generate buy-in to proposed directions.
•Maintains an objective position, bringing facts and insights to the organization with "no dog in the hunt".
•Can come up to speed quickly on a wide range of topics, and enjoys the process of continuous learning.
•Cares more about getting the right outcome than getting credit.
•Manages work efficiently, seamlessly teaming with others to work through our agenda quickly and pushing back on work that should be done elsewhere in the organization.
•Has successfully led teams and provided valued mentorship.
•Writes concise written materials and presents in a compelling, data-driven way, with the ability to stand one's ground without alienating others.
•Drives a data-driven, agile culture as a role model and influencer within S&I and all of D&S.

All About You
•Extensive prior business experience
•Experience in strategy development and execution, including new product development, M&A/partnership strategy, business evaluation, competitive benchmarking, financial/business case modeling
•Deep knowledge of multiple aspects of D&S's line of business (i.e., payments consulting, data & analytics, issuer or merchant loyalty, marketing services, Test & Learn, etc.) and the relationship of D&S offerings to core Mastercard
•Multiple examples of driving strategic efforts to changed business decisions
•Ability to influence and lead others by example through strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
•Ability to control and influence difficult conversations among senior executives to productive outcomes
•Strong self-management skills
•Ability to engage and make progress on multiple projects with multiple teams concurrently
