Credit Underwriter I
The incumbent is responsible for the analysis, underwriting, and structuring secured credit requests as a member of the Private Banking Secured Lending Division. The role requires understanding the elements needed for a credit transaction and to ensure compliance with Risk approval and policies, internal legal guidelines, and all government regulations and guidelines. A basic understanding of credit and risks related to loans, particularly those secured by marketable collateral is essential. Transactions supported by the Lending Division can range from $500,000 to over $100 million, and this position typically focuses on the lower end of the range, and on the more straightforward requests (managed accounts as collateral, individual or non-operating entity borrowers and/or pledgors, etc.). The position requires working closely with the Private Bankers and the Lending Division Team Leader and Manager to underwrite and obtain approvals for credit requests. The incumbent interfaces with the business development officers in 6 regions throughout the U.S., Loan Administration, Treasury Shared Service areas, other areas such as Portfolio Management and Letters of Credit. The incumbent may also be assigned to handle the monitoring of margin calls for the business line using an in-house collateral monitoring system. This involves approving requests from Portfolio Teams to release assets from pledged accounts; calculation of availability to advance under the line; management reporting for loans that are out of formula; working closely with the Bankers and Portfolio Managers on resolution strategies.
A BS/BA degree with minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the financial or brokerage industry is required. Also required are strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to assess, articulate, and translate credit requests as they related to the documentation and administration of a loan portfolio. Proficient PC skills and the ability to learn and use various internal systems are critical.
