Job Summary:

The Consultant works with a team to identify utility tax savings opportunities for clients associated with electricity and natural gas and to gain an understanding of how the client computes each component of specified tax. This includes researching tax issues and completing detailed calculations.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryans Key Results


  • Create a positive team experience.


  • Travels to client locations to gather information.
  • Prepares and conducts client presentations.
  • Assists with client billing and financial forecasting.
  • Partners with other Transaction Tax Practice teams to maximize the clients benefit of any tax recoveries related to utilities.
  • Responds to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.
  • Assists Manager in data collection, input, and analysis along with the tax recovery process.


  • Reviews documentation and researches issues.
  • Works with raw data to complete calculations.
  • Inventories manufacturing sites with regard to items consuming electricity or natural gas.
  • Prepares utility studies to determine predominant use of electricity or natural gas.
  • Communicates effectively through written and verbal channels.
  • Negotiates tax resolutions with state agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree or Masters degree or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering with at least one to three years of manufacturing or energy-related tax experience.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid drivers license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Occasional long periods of standing while collecting data in the field.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • Independent travel requirement: 25 to 50%.
