Tax Associate

Position Summary
The Tax Associate is responsible for the preparation of stand-alone business tax returns, financial statement related tax returns, individual tax returns, tax research, and other related tax projects. In this role, the Tax Associate will be charged with utilizing basic research skills and working with tax software applications to complete various tax returns for review.
Essential Job Functions

  • Works on various tax preparation projects (federal, state, sales & use) under direct supervision of a superior (depending on the tax return, the supervisor could be a Senior Tax Associate, Manager, or Senior Manager).
  • Prepares stand-alone work papers following the Company policies and procedures.
  • Prepares working trial balance, adjusting journal entries and tax accruals for stand-alone tax returns.
  • Prepares typical business and personal income tax returns.
  • Performs any other work assigned by a supervisor(s).
  • Becomes familiar with the Company's policies, procedures, manuals, forms, and relevant software.
  • Prepares tax returns (business and personal) as assigned by supervisors.
  • Prepares working trial balance, adjusting journal entries and tax accruals for stand-alone tax returns.
  • May maintain property and equipment records, and calculate depreciation and amortization.
  • Prepares and reconciles account schedules as required.
  • Completes tax returns for some financial statement related returns, which may be assigned by the A&A Department.
  • Performs research projects in the area of taxation, including payroll and sales tax.
  • Begins to prepare more complicated business tax returns including consolidated and multi-state.
  • Analysis of trial balances and calculation of book/tax adjustments for financial reporting purposes.
  • Communicates with colleagues regarding information needed or clarification of issues.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Supports departmental goals, policies and guidelines.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Tax, Finance or Accounting required.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum one of two years of tax preparation experience required.
  • Specific work experience in a complex, high volume environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with tax research databases.
  • Proficient in all tax compliance process software, or comparable programs, and standard tax Workpapers. Ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data and draw logical conclusions.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including, proficient in use of Excel and MS Office.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with JD Edwards-Enterprise One System or other large ERP system preferred but not required.
Other Skills
Requires an organized, independent thinker who has ability to be a part of a team and demonstrates strong attention to detail, and demonstrate knowledge of tax return practices and procedures. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and vendors.
