MORE ABOUT THIS JOB The Legal Department plays an essential role in the formulation and implementation of the strategy of Goldman Sachs ("GS"). The advice and counsel we provide to all areas of the firm is critical to maintaining our commitments to our clients, regulators, and shareholders and to promoting our culture of excellence and integrity. Our goal is to provide legal advice that protects the firm's financial well-being and reputation, and assists our various businesses in executing transactions and evaluating the associated risks.

The candidate will be part of the Legal Department's working group known as "Realty Management Division Legal" or "RMD Legal." RMD Legal provides primary coverage to the Realty Management Division of GS ("RMD"). RMD is engaged globally in many aspects of real estate investing, finance and asset management. The candidate will serve as the primary counsel for RMD's U.S. Commercial Real Estate team, which is focused on real estate acquisition, asset management and disposition across multiple product types including office, retail, multi-family, senior housing and industrial. The team is also responsible for the oversight of certain real estate development and construction projects. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory schemes applicable to real estate investments made by financial institutions and working with the business and compliance management to ensure proper policies and procedures are adopted in connection with regulatory developments.


  • Direct interaction with business units regarding transactions, asset management and regulatory matters
  • Instructing/working with/ managing external counsel and consultants
  • Coordinating with others across departments to ensure delivery/receipt of required information and review/approval of legal issues
  • Coordinating with others in dealing with and responding to various regulatory questions
  • Communicate regulatory requirements to the business teams
Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years post qualification experience required in a leading law firm or financial institution
  • Team player with inherent commercial judgment and strong analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • High level of initiative, integrity, and organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience with the negotiation and preparation of real estate transactional documentation (term sheets, acquisition, disposition, leasing, development, construction, financing, etc.) and joint venture agreements.
