Rory Tapner and Robert Gillespie have been appointed as joint global heads of corporate finance at Warburg Dillon Read. Gillespie will be responsible for global mergers and acquisitions while Tapner will undertake corporate responsibility for the debt capital markets, equity capital markets and leveraged finance groups. They were previously European head of corporate finance and global head of equity capital markets respectively. Klaus Droste, Michael Sautter and Stephan Leithner have joined the global investment banking unit of Deutsche Bank. Droste has been appointed head of European industry groups, Sautter joins as regional head of GIB in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and Leithner has been appointed managing director in the European advisory group. All three join from McKinsey in Frankfurt where they were leading members of the management consultancy's corporate finance and strategy practice in Europe and Germany, as well as its financial institutions group. Norbert Reis will join CSFB as a managing director of the European chemicals group, the natural resources group and the pulp, paper and packaging group. Reis, previously co-head of mergers and acquisitions at Deutsche Bank, will also be a member of CSFB's European mergers and acquisitions group and of its European investment banking committee. Reis will be based in London and report to Richard Gillingwater and Donald Meltzer, managing directors and co-heads of CSFB's European industry groups. Dresdner Kleinwort Benson has appointed Maurizio Stecco as head of corporate finance, Italy. He was previously general manager of international operations at Telecom Italia and will now report to John Williams, head of continental European corporate finance. Theodore Kuh is to head a new European retail and consumer investment banking group at Salomon Smith Barney. He was most recently a member of the firm's US and Canadian food retail practice. Also, two directors from the New York telecommunications group, David Kirshenbaum and James McCummings, are transferring to London. They will report to Mark Simonian, head of European telecommunications. James Weist, a vice-president in the New York institutions group, will also transfer to London, while Tony Gilby, previously a director at Warburg Dillon Read, has been appointed as a vice-president in the European industrial group. Andrea Buscallglia joins as a vice-president from Deutsche Bank to work in the London-based Italian investment banking team. She will report to Paolo Gianotti De Ponti. Elena Passani has joined Barclays as head of corporate banking in Milan. She was previously head of Hypo Vereinsbank's Italian corporate banking operation. Philip Barker has joined Cavendish Corporate Finance from Livingstone Guarantee. Barker advised on M&A programmes for British Steel, TNT and P&O.
