Chris Ryan has joined Warburg Dillon Read as global head of banking products. Ryan, who was previously head of loan syndication and trading at Lehman Brothers, will report to John Costas, global head of fixed income and treasury products. Former Akin, Gump partner Vernon Jordan has joined Lazard in New York as a senior managing director. He will work closely with Lazard clients globally. Jordan is a director of American Express, Dow Jones, Sara Lee and Xerox. Alan Jebson, HSBC's group general manager of IT, has been promoted to executive director of the firm, with effect from January 2000. Jim Sutcliffe has been appointed chief executive of Old Mutual's life businesses with effect from late January 2000. Until recently, Sutcliffe was deputy chairman of Liberty International having previously been chief executive of Prudential and chief operating officer of Jackson National, Prudential's US subsidiary. David Martin has been appointed director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's corporate finance division. Martin, who succeeds Brian Lane, joins from Hogan and Hartson, the Washington DC law firm, where he specialised in corporate law, corporate finance transactions and securities law, including regulatory analysis, reporting and disclosure. He will now oversee the SEC's corporate disclosure operation and the development of new initiatives responding to changes in corporate finance and capital raising.
