The bank is sponsoring a new 1.75m centre for Women in Business at the London Business School (LBS). The centre will investigate the issues inhibiting women's advancement and aim to help businesses attract and retain talented women.
Ellen Miller, head of European graduate recruitment at Lehman Brothers, says Lehman and LBS are jointly committed to expanding the pool of talent and furthering the understanding of what motivates women.
"We're treating the causes rather than the symptoms," she says. "Women just don't apply to banks and business schools in the numbers you would expect. Some schools struggle to achieve 27% of applicants who are women. The centre will be a forum for undertaking rigorous research to address that."
