Daniel quits after Deutsche takeover

Daniel joined the bank in April 1996 and was part of the investigation of the illegal transfer by Bankers Trust of customer funds to boost profits which took place before his arrival between 1994 and 1996. He had signed a three-year contract with Deutsche Bank understood to be worth more than $20m. Walter Merricks has been appointed chief ombudsman of the Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme. In addition to personally handling the complex or precedent cases, he will be engaged in scheme policy, ensuring overall quality and consistency of case handling and decision making, as well as external representation. Merricks has been insurance ombudsman since September 1996. The FSOS will merge the eight existing ombudsman schemes in the financial services sector. Alberto Francioni has resigned as joint head of ABN Amro's general treasury and fixed income business after less than a month in the position. Nils Lorenzen, with whom Francioni shared the role, is temporarily taking sole responsibility for the division. Sir David Chapman, 57, has been appointed vice-president and senior relationship manager for north-east England by Merrill Lynch.
