Stephen Ferris has been appointed president and chief executive of Santander Investment Securities by parent company Banco Santander Central Hispano. He joins from Bankers Trust where he was most recently managing director at the global banking division of Bankers Trust in New York, co-ordinating the investment banking origination for major corporations and financial institutions, concentrating on Latin America and Spain. HSBC has appointed Michel Fleuriet to head its investment banking and markets business in France. Fleuriet joins HSBC from Merrill Lynch where he spent nine years, most recently as president of its supervisory board in France. At HSBC Fleuriet will be in charge of business development and co-ordinating invstment banking and markets operations. John Coombe, finance director of Glaxo Wellcome, has been appointed chairman of the Hundred Group of finance directors, made up of the finance directors of the FTSE 100 companies and other big UK firms. The group keeps in touch with the Government, the EU, the Accounting Standards Board and other official bodies to ensure that the interests of major companies are taken into account. Robertson Stephens has appointed Steven Tishman as managing director and head of the consumer and services and growth banking groups. He will head the firm's New York office and be responsible for business development, management and general oversight of the firm's retail and apparel, consumer products and business and information services businesses. He will also be jointly responsible for the firm's eTailing business. Before joining Robertson Stephens, Tishman was with Bear Stearns, most recently as senior managing director and group head of the consumer group.
