Flexible staff boost production

The Industrial Society examined the performance of 69 pairs of job sharers and 57 flexible workers in managerial positions. It found that 70% of the sample were outperforming their full-time colleagues. In the case of job sharers, 70% were perceived to have at least 30% higher output.

John Knell, deputy director of futures at the Industrial Society says: 'To show that work-life balance and high performance can go hand in hand will be a significant contribution to the work-life debate, but the research also has significant implications for working in a globalised 24-hour society.'
