There was a sign that corporate brokers are still hot property at the end of last week, when Citigroup hired Nigel Mills, chief executive of corporate broking house Hoare Govett.
Mills becomes chairman of the US bank's corporate broking team. Four of Mills' team also moved: Andrew Chapman, Tom Reid, Andrew Thompson and Chris Zeal are becoming managing directors at Citigroup.
The latest defections are a continuation of last year's corporate broking hiring spree, when Morgan Stanley took a team of brokers from Merrill Lynch.
Investment banking: Braggiotti rumoured to be quitting Lehman
Press reports suggested Gerardo Braggiotti, a senior Italian banker, resigned from Lazard following a dispute over a promised promotion. Lazard declined to comment.
Morgan Stanley hired Piers Coombs from JPMorgan Cazenove as an executive director in its investment banking division. Nick Wiles, co-head of corporate finance at Morgan Stanley, left for Cazenove last week.
Fund management: Huey Evans leaves FSA for hedge fund
Hedge fund Tribeca Global Management hired Gay Huey Evans from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) as president of Tribeca Global Management (Europe) Ltd. Huey Evans was capital markets sector leader at the FSA. The move prompted mutterings about the FSA's problems retaining senior staff. Andrew Procter, former director of enforcement at the regulator, joined Deutsche Bank in April.
UK-based fund manager WMG hired Heather Crighton from Schroder Astra Fund as an equity long/short portfolio manager, responsible for Asian investments.
Credit Suisse Asset Management hired Duncan Avery, former global information technology director from Morley Fund Management, as global head of information technology. Avery will be based in London.
NewSmith Asset Management hired Matthew Weir from Brevan Howard Asset Management as head of risk and control.
Mercer Investment Consulting hired Paul Cavalier, former head of bonds at Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch. Cavalier joins as a fixed income specialist.
Schroders hired Neil Walton from Mercer Investment Consulting as head of strategic solutions.
Chris Samuel left Gartmore, where he was director and group chief operating officer. He said he was looking for a more entrepreneurial setting.
Derivatives: Hires and minor reshuffles at DrKW and SG CIB
Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein hired Roberto Silvotti from Calyon as head of new product development, global derivatives. It also appointed Gregory Lieb and Rick Weinstein, head of correlation trading and structured product trading respectively, as co-heads of the credit derivatives business group. They retain their former roles. The bank is also forming a new rates derivatives and hybrids group headed by Tong Lee and Dean Rock, head of credit hybrid trading and deputy head of rates.
SG Corporate and Investment Banking added two senior sales staff to its equity derivatives team. Michael Gypkens joined from Citigroup and Henry McWatters joined from Goldman Sachs. Gypkens will be based in Germany, with McWatters in London.
The French bank also moved two people internally in its operations department. Yves Garanzini, global head of operations for debt capital markets, becomes global head of equity derivatives operations. Omar Daheur, European head of forex and money-market operations and global head of commodities operations, replaces Garanzini as global head of debt capital markets operations.
Antonio Polverino, newly appointed head of corporate derivatives at JP Morgan, resigned to take up a similar position at Merrill Lynch.
Fixed income: B of A hires Lampard
Bank of America hired Scott Lampard from JP Morgan Chase as co-head of international syndicate and head of frequent borrower origination for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Ian Harjette, head of international syndicate, is moving to head the financial institutions high-grade origination business in EMEA
Nomura hired Michael Spitz, former head of German and Austrian financial institutions at CSFB as part of its drive to grow its European debt capital markets business. Ken Kesey, former head of syndication in the international yen debt team at Nomura was made head of German capital markets.
Equities: DrKW hires for Russian research
Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW) hired two equity research directors for its Moscow office. Iouli Matevossov and Leonid Mirzoyan joined to cover the telecommunications sector and Russian oil and gas sector respectively. Both came from Vneshtorgbank Moscow.
Citigroup hired Roberto Morelli as a managing director in European equity sales. Morelli was formerly in Deutsche Bank's disbanded internal hedge fund, DB Advisors.
Private equity: Kleinwort Capital hires Watkinson
Kleinwort Capital Ltd hired Sam Watkinson from Aberdeen Murray Johnstone Private Equity as an investment director.
