Lunchtime Links: How to leave banking without experiencing a traumatic reduction in pay

This may not come as news to everyone, but it appears you can earn quite good money in advertising.

According to the Evening Standard, some senior people in the advertising industry are paid comparably with associate-level investment bankers.

If you want to leave banking and still want to earn good money, you may therefore want to avail yourself of the advertising career options below. If successful, you will not be on a par with the highest earning bankers, but you will be earning six figures - assuming you can persuade a creative agency your financial services experience is valid.

@trader well said it is only a select few that earn millions. I think that people need to realise this and stop getting sidetracked by the media's inflated investment banker's salaries.

@sarah - As we all know banking is a fantastic career for people whose main drive is financial reward, however it is important to note that while the average salary is alot higher the people earning millions are a select few. In addition to finance the IT industry also pays what you'd call front office (sales/account management) people extremely well. Having spent time at one of the largest software vendors in the U.S. I discovered that out of 20 sales people, 3 that I know of recieved over 1 million in a bonus and the rest were all getting a good six figures. However it's important to note that these people were under the same sort of pressure sales/traders are in banks meaning turnover could be high if targets were not met. Anyway I think its good to highlight that whilst banking can be an an extremely rewarding career it's not the only way to earn a fortune.
