A research MD let go by UBS just reappeared at hedge fund Millennium in London

Lourina Pretorius should be feeling refreshed. After being let go from UBS last year, she has a new job, and it is possibly better than her last one.

Pretorius has just joined hedge fund Millennium in London, where she will be in "equities management."

She spent nearly nine years at UBS, where she was latterly head of EMEA research product. However, when UBS culled its research product people following the acquisition of Credit Suisse people, Pretorius was let go. The FCA register shows her leaving the bank in December 2023, which means she's had a nine-month break, not including her notice period.

Pretorius' arrival at Millennium coincides with that of William Johns, a senior strategist who's returning to Millennium after a brief sojourn at Brevan Howard. Johns was once the head of correlation trading at Nomura. Millennium also hired Vladislav Dunaevschi from Brevan Howard in systematic trading in London.

Millennium appears to be thriving and is raising $7bn-$10bn of new callable cash. Brevan Howard, however, has lost nearly 2% on its flagship fund so far this year.
