Angie Báez might struggle to find a new DEI job after leaving JPMorgan
The New York Post is reporting that the woman who was seen emptying out a blue and orange Knicks-coloured trashcan onto the street and then walking away with it after the Knicks won the NBA championship for the first time in 50 years, worked for JPMorgan. She has reportedly been fired.

The video in question went viral. The woman stealing the can was subsequently seen travelling with the can on the subway. And there are suggestions that a similar can was then listed on Facebook marketplace for $5k.
The New York post claims the perpetrator was Angie Báez, a 40-year-old JPMorgan Chase executive director specialising in DEI who covered community and card engagement. The bank is said to have parted company with Baez on Tuesday. JPMorgan told us: “This employee is no longer with the company.” The Post noted that any events that occurred at the Knicks parade occurred in Báez' own time. We have not confirmed the claims with Báez herself.
If she has indeed left JPMorgan, Báez may find new DEI jobs hard to come by. Revelio Labs noted last year that DEI headcount in the US has been declining since 2023 and that people who've worked in DEI jobs are increasingly moving into non-DEI roles.
It's conceivable that Báez, who has disabled her LinkedIn account, had already branched out by moving into the engagement role. The Financial Times said in November that DEI job adverts were down 74% from their peak. In February, the Wall Street Journal noted that Goldman, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley had all dropped diversity requirements for their boards. In 2024, various banks got rid of their diversity hiring schemes.
