French trader ejected by HSBC in London finds new job in Paris

If you were part of HSBC’s surprise cuts in London earlier this year, you might be reassured by knowing that your skills are still very much in demand by other banks. And you might even get to move to Paris.

Guillaume Resteu joined Natixis in Paris this week as a Short-Term Interest Rate (STIR) and cross-currency trader. He was last seen at HSBC in London, where he was head of STIR forwards for G10 currencies.

Resteu spent three years at HSBC and has been out of the market for a few months: we previously reported that he was quietly let go by HSBC back in February, as part of its culling of salespeople and traders, which went a bit under the radar as the bank cut chunks out of its investment bank around the same time.

Natixis Paris might be a safer environment.  It probably helped Resteu’s case that he's French and FX traders are in demand. Bloomberg reported in February that banks were beefing up their foreign exchange desks in light of Trumpian volatility.
