Deutsche technology banker moves to Evercore, gets a promotion
Convincing an investment banker to move from a big bank to a boutique bank is usually a pretty easy sell. Boutiques pay well – and are remarkably prestigious. Getting a promotion in the process is just icing on the cake.

Samer Sweidan joined Evercore in London this week, as a managing director (MD) in its technology investment banking team. He joined the firm from Deutsche Bank in the city, where he was a director in the German bank’s EMEA tech banking team, covering software M&A.
Although going from being a director to being an MD is always a prestige upgrade, it’s not as simple when it comes to boutique banks like Evercore. The bank employs MDs but also senior managing directors, who are a rung above on the ladder, similar to the partners employed by rivals such as PJT or PWP.
Even so, moving from Deutsche Bank to a place like Evercore is an easy decision to make. According to data from LSEG, formerly Refinitiv, Evercore was the 9th biggest bank in EMEA in 2025, up from 14th the year before as ranked by M&A market share. Deutsche Bank, on the other hand, moved from 9th to 14th. Evercore held a market share more than double Deutsche’s in 2025, according to LSEG.
