The electronic trading firms building new teams in Gen AI and deep learning

It's not just banks and hedge funds building new teams with the most in-vogue AI technologies. Electronic trading firms, namely G-Research and Flow Traders, are doing the same.

The former, a UK based firm with strong links to the Conservative party, is hiring for a "newly established GenAI engineering team." At present, it is only advertising for one role, a London based software engineer.

The role has many similarities to the flashy applied AI researcher roles available today; the engineer will develop AI solutions and conduct experiments around them. The role also involves "upskilling and coaching" other staff on LLMs.

On the continent, Amsterdam-based algorithmic trading firm Flow Traders has established a new team of its own "focusing on Deep Learning research and model-based trading." It wants candidates "driven by a startup environment", and is currently hiring for DevOps engineers in London and Amsterdam.

Other firms are building out their already established AI research functions. Jump Trading is hiring in New York for an AI research scientist for its central R&D group. It's looking for published academics with more than five years of industry experience, and is willing to pay a salary of up to $300k.
