Citi declined to comment and Farrington didn't respond to a request to comment. Multiple sources said he has announced his resignation.

Farringdon is thought to have a new role elsewhere. Deutsche Bank has been suggested. Deutsche Bank declined to comment. Various other Citi bankers have appeared at Deutsche Bank, which appears to be getting the gang together under Alison Harding Jones and Anthony Parsons. Not everyone at Deutsche Bank appears happy with this.

Farrington spent nearly 18 years at Citi after joining as a graduate trainee in 2008. He is not the only senior TMT banker to leave Citi's London office this year. Davide Russo left in March and has yet to resurface elsewhere.

Speaking to Financial News Tiina Lee, head of Citi's business in the UK, said Citi is using money it's saved from its transformation to invest in new bankers. As we were first to report, Citi has also hired Stuart Ord, Deutsche Bank's head of M&A and Klaus Hessberger, Lazard's head of European financial sponsor coverage.

Citi's investment bank is run by Vis Raghavan who formerly worked for JPMorgan. Raghavan has hired many new people, some of them also from JPMorgan. Speaking at Citi's investor day earlier this month, Raghavan revealed that Citi needs 100 new MD bankers if it wants to have as many as it's 75th centile competitor, and said he plans to increase the bank's banking headcount by another 15%.
