A 26-year-old ex-Barclays trader just became a BlueCrest partner

Benjamin Nicholas Turner is having a good year. Four years after graduating from the University of Bath and beginning his trading career as an analyst on the Barclays sterling rates trading desk and three years after leaving Barclays for BlueCrest, the family office of Mike Platt, Turner has been made a partner there.

As a BlueCrest partner, Turner will get to share in the BlueCrest profits. In the last year for which figures are available (to March 2025), BlueCrest's 46 London partners received an average of £959k ($1.3m) each.

Turner didn't respond to a request to comment on his good fortune. In a regulatory filing this week, BlueCrest said he became a partner on May 1st.

Ben Turner is unusually young to make partner at Platt's fund. Other recently made partners include Panos Yiasoumi, a former head of government bond trading at Bank of America, who began his career in 2000, or Francois Puget, the former head of G10 rates trading at BNP Paribas. Both men have decades of experience.

Turner's success may encourage other junior traders to join BlueCrest too. However, Turner is not the norm. BlueCrest's list of other London partners reveal that he's the only one in his 20s. BlueCrest's second youngest partner is James Liu, a 33 year-old Cambridge University graduate who previously spent six years at Goldman and four years at JPMorgan.

Turner has four years of post-graduation experience in total. He appears to be exceptional.
