Hedge fund Balyasny hired another economist in London

Balyasny is building its bench of London macroeconomists. First it hired Ben Broadbent, a former deputy governor of the Bank of England, as head of macro strategy in June. Now it's hired a former Goldman Sachs economist, seemingly to be part of Broadbent's team.

Lasse Holbøll Westh Nielsen, a former senior economist at Goldman Sachs in London, has just joined Balynasy as a senior macro strategist. Holbøll Westh Nielsen comes from DE Shaw, where he spent nearly six years after nine years at Goldman.

Based in London, Holbøll Westh Nielsen will presumably work with Broadbent. However, the impetus for his recruitment may well have come from elsewhere: the global head of macro strategy at Balyasny is Boston-based Brian Sack, a former director of global economics at DE Shaw.

Balyasny also recently hired Wajih Ahmed, a Goldman Sachs macro VP for its London team.

The fund didn't immediately respond to a request to comment.
